Trust & Safety

Built so you never have to worry about your lawyer.

Most Indians have one bad lawyer story. We designed every part of LawLand so you never get yours. Below is exactly how.

1. Escrow protection

Your payment is held by LawLand, not the advocate. The advocate gets paid only after you approve the deliverable.

  1. 1

    You pay

Pay with UPI, card, or net-banking through Razorpay. Money lands in a LawLand-controlled escrow account.

  2. 2

    We hold

Funds sit in escrow while a verified advocate is matched and the work is being done. Lawyer gets ₹0 until then.

  3. 3

    You approve

Review the deliverable on WhatsApp or web. Two free revisions before you accept.

  4. 4

    We release

Once you accept, funds are released to the lawyer's verified Razorpay Linked Account in 1–2 business days.

2. Verified lawyers

Every advocate on LawLand passes a four-step verification before taking a single brief.

  1. 1Bar Council enrolment number checked against state records (BCI / SBC).
  2. 2Aadhaar / PAN identity matched to the bar council record.
  3. 3Court enrolment confirmed for every court the advocate claims to practise in.
  4. 4LawLand Code of Conduct signed and stored before the profile goes live.

We display the last 4 of the bar council ID on every profile so you can re-verify with the SBC yourself.

3. Free re-do, not refund

If a lawyer underdelivers, we reassign your matter to another verified advocate at no extra cost — your work gets done, not unwound.

We chose this model after 200 customer interviews. Refunds leave you back at square one with the same legal problem and now no money. Re-do means a senior reviewer ensures the work actually gets completed by a different lawyer of equal seniority. You only fall back to a money refund if the matter cannot be re-done at all.

  • Triggered with one tap from your order page.
  • Senior advocate reviews within one business day.
  • Replacement advocate assigned within 24 hours of approval.
  • Money refund available if the matter is genuinely unfixable.

4. Masked phone numbers

Calls and WhatsApp threads route through an Exotel-issued masked number. Lawyers never see your real phone, and you never see theirs.

This protects you from off-platform sales, after-hours calls, and the all-too-common scenario where a lawyer becomes a contact on every legal matter you have for the next decade. When the matter closes, the masking expires and the number is recycled.

5. DPDP compliance

We are a Data Fiduciary under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. Your rights, in plain language.

What we collect
Phone, email, name, city, and the case brief you choose to share. Payment is processed by Razorpay; we never see card data.
How we store it
Encrypted at rest in AWS Mumbai (ap-south-1). Case briefs use envelope encryption with per-tenant keys.
Your rights
Export every byte we hold on you, correct it, withdraw consent, or hard-delete the lot — all from /account/privacy.

6. BCI advertising rules

The Bar Council of India bars advocates from advertising. LawLand is the marketplace that markets — individual lawyers do not.

On every lawyer profile you will see facts (name, city, years practising, languages, fee bracket, response time, review count) but no marketing adjectives, no "best in class", and no "book the top advocate". Our build pipeline literally refuses to ship a lawyer page that contains promotional copy. The platform speaks; the lawyer does not.

7. Three-strike rule

What happens if a lawyer violates the LawLand Code of Conduct.

  1. 1Strike 1 — Written warning + senior advocate review.
  2. 2Strike 2 — 30-day suspension, all live matters reassigned.
  3. 3Strike 3 — Permanent removal + report to the State Bar Council where appropriate.

Examples of code violations: off-platform billing, missed SLAs without notice, contacting clients on personal numbers, sharing case details outside LawLand.

8. Dispute resolution

Five steps from raise to resolution. Most disputes close inside 72 hours.

  1. 1

Raise — One-tap "Report a problem" on any order or consult page.

  2. 2

Support reviews — A LawLand support specialist reads the thread, the deliverable, and the SLA in under four hours.

  3. 3

Senior advocate panel — If facts are contested, an empanelled senior advocate reviews and recommends a fair outcome.

  4. 4

Reassign / partial release / refund — One of three outcomes; you receive the rationale in writing.

  5. 5

Appeal — One free appeal to the founder. Decision is final but recorded in our public dispute log.

9. Customer Charter

What you can always expect from LawLand, in writing.

  • A written scope, a written timeline, and a written price before you pay.
  • A Bar Council-verified advocate matched to your language and city.
  • Updates on WhatsApp at every state change of your order.
  • Two free revisions on every drafting service.
  • Refund or re-do if the deliverable does not match the agreed scope.
  • Your data, exported or deleted on demand, no questions asked.
  • No upselling, no commission-driven referrals, no cold sales calls.

Report a concern

Spotted off-platform billing, a misrepresented credential, or anything that does not feel right? Tell us. Reports are read by the trust team within four business hours.

Trust questions, answered

If yours is not here, write to trust@lawland.in — we read every line.

  • How is the escrow account regulated?

Escrow is operated through Razorpay Route, an RBI-licensed payment aggregator. Funds are held in a designated nodal account and reconciled daily.

  • What if my lawyer asks me to pay outside LawLand?

Tap the "Off-platform billing" report button on the order page. The lawyer is suspended pending review and you receive ₹100 LawLand credit for the report.

  • Can I see who my lawyer is before I pay?

You see anonymized facts (years, language, city, fee bracket, response time, rating). Full identity is shared at the start of the engagement; this protects both sides under BCI rules.

  • How long does a refund take?

If a refund is approved, money returns to your original payment method in 5–7 business days (Razorpay timeline).

  • Are conversations end-to-end encrypted?

WhatsApp threads use WhatsApp's E2E encryption. LawLand-side message logs are encrypted at rest with AWS KMS.

  • Where is my data stored?

All personally identifiable data lives in AWS Mumbai (ap-south-1). Backups stay in-region. We do not transfer your data outside India.

  • Can I download all my data?

Yes — visit /account/privacy and click "Export all my data". You receive a ZIP within 24 hours containing every record across orders, consultations, templates, courses, and the Health Score.

  • Who decides on a dispute?

First, the LawLand support team. Escalations go to an independent panel of three senior advocates who do not take cases on the platform. Their decision is shared with both sides in writing.

  • Are reviews real?

Reviews can only be left by a verified purchaser of the same SKU or consult, and only once. We do not edit reviews; we do remove ones that contain personal data or slurs.

  • What happens if LawLand shuts down?

Customer funds in escrow are returned within 30 days via the same payment method. Your data export remains available for 90 days. We commit to a 60-day shutdown notice.
