Marriage registration and your marriage certificate, at a flat fee
Marriage registration is the official recording of your marriage with the government, which produces the marriage certificate — the one document that proves your marriage to any bank, passport office, visa authority or employer that asks. Adv. Bhawna Yadav and her team register your marriage under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 or the Special Marriage Act, 1954, prepare and lodge the full application, coordinate the appointment, and follow through until your certificate is issued — all at a flat professional fee of ₹2,500, agreed in writing before we begin. There is no hourly billing, nothing padded on later, and no upselling.
You get one advocate-led team handling the whole thing, one clear fee, and a certificate in your hands. That is the entire promise, and we keep it plainly.
What marriage registration actually is
A wedding — the ceremony, the rituals, the guests — is the marriage in the eyes of your family and faith. Registration is the marriage in the eyes of the State. The two are separate things, and it is the second one that a visa officer, a bank manager or a passport office will ask you to prove.
Registration means your marriage is entered in an official register and a marriage certificate is issued in your names. That certificate is the portable, universally accepted proof of your marriage. Without it, you are left explaining your relationship with wedding photographs and invitation cards, which no serious authority accepts. With it, the question is closed in a single page.
There are two main routes, and part of our job is to put you on the right one.
The Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 applies where both spouses are Hindu, Sikh, Jain or Buddhist and the marriage has already been solemnised in the traditional way. Here, registration records a marriage that already exists.
The Special Marriage Act, 1954 is the civil, secular route. It is used by inter-faith couples, by couples who want a registration independent of any religion, and by those solemnising a civil marriage. This route involves a notice period fixed by law, so it takes longer, and we set your expectations accordingly.
We confirm which Act governs your marriage on our very first call, so you are never applying under the wrong law.
Our flat fee and what it covers
The fee is ₹2,500, flat. For that single figure, we:
- confirm which Act applies to your marriage and exactly what your certificate will need;
- give you a clear, tailored checklist of documents, photographs and witnesses;
- prepare your complete application without errors that cause rejections;
- lodge it with the marriage registration authority that has jurisdiction over you;
- coordinate the appointment and, where the Act requires it, the appearance of the couple and witnesses; and
- follow through until the marriage certificate is issued and delivered to you.
We tell you this fee in writing before any work begins, and it does not move. If your situation genuinely needs something beyond a standard registration — a disputed marriage that has to go before a court, or a fresh solemnisation under the Special Marriage Act with its full notice process — we tell you that honestly at the outset and quote it separately, in advance and in writing. Nothing is ever slipped onto your bill after the fact.
That honesty is deliberate. Some offices quote a small figure to draw you in, then discover reasons to keep charging as the file crawls along. We do the opposite: one clear fee for the defined work, a straight word about what your matter actually needs, and no pressure to buy anything more. We respect your time, and we respect our own effort enough to price it plainly.
Who this is for
Couples come to us for registration at very different moments in their lives. This service is for you if you are:
- Newly married and want the certificate in hand before life gets busy, so it is ready the day you need it.
- Preparing a visa application — a spouse visa, dependent visa or the paperwork for moving abroad — where a registered marriage certificate is non-negotiable.
- Changing a name on a passport, Aadhaar, PAN or bank record after marriage, which almost always starts with the marriage certificate.
- An inter-faith couple who need the civil route under the Special Marriage Act handled calmly and correctly.
- An NRI or overseas couple who married in India, or who need an Indian registration recognised abroad, and cannot keep running to offices in person.
- Married years ago but never registered, and now find a bank, employer or authority insisting on the certificate.
If your situation is not on this list, it does not mean we cannot help — it means you should talk to us so we can tell you exactly where you stand. You can book a consultation for a straight reading before you commit to anything.
Why the certificate matters more than people expect
People often treat registration as a formality to do "someday". Then a deadline arrives — a visa interview, a passport renewal, a bank's compliance demand — and the missing certificate becomes an emergency.
A marriage certificate is what you will be asked for when you apply for a spouse or dependent visa, when a wife or husband wants a name change on official records, when you open a joint bank account or set an insurance nomination, when you claim rights in property or inheritance, and in countless immigration and employment situations abroad. Foreign consulates in particular will not proceed on wedding photos; they want the registered certificate, sometimes with further authentication, and we can guide you on what your destination country expects.
Getting registered now, calmly, is far easier than scrambling for it under pressure later. A rejected application on the eve of a visa interview, or a mismatch between your names across documents discovered at the last moment, can cost you a trip or a job start date. That is the quiet value of doing this properly and once.
What you get with Adv. Bhawna Yadav and her team
You get a named advocate who owns your registration from start to finish — not a form handed to a runner and forgotten. You get the right Act identified, a checklist built around your actual documents so there are no wasted trips, an application prepared to be accepted the first time, the correct authority approached, and your certificate followed through to issue and delivered to you, digital and physical where both are available. And you get one flat fee, fixed in writing, with no upselling behind it.
Everything you share with us is covered by advocate–client confidentiality from the first conversation. Your identity documents and personal details are handled with the discretion they deserve.
How working with us goes
We keep it simple, because registration should be the easy part of being married.
First, we speak with you — by call, video or email — and confirm which Act applies, where the registration belongs, and what your certificate will ultimately be used for. Then we send you a precise checklist: the documents to gather, the photographs to arrange, and the witnesses to line up. We check the details that quietly cause rejections — a name spelt two ways across your identity papers, a date that does not match, a missing proof of address — and fix them before anything is lodged. We prepare your complete application, lodge it with the correct authority, and coordinate the appointment. Where the Act requires the couple and witnesses to appear, we tell you exactly when and where, and we prepare you so the appearance is quick and stress-free.
Throughout, we keep you informed in language you understand, and when the certificate is issued we hand it to you and explain how to use it — for the visa, the passport, the name change, whatever brought you to us. You will not have to chase us for updates or decode official jargon. We describe what you will receive and when, not the machinery behind the counter, because the outcome is what matters to you.
Available across India and for NRIs and clients abroad
The Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 and the Special Marriage Act, 1954 are central legislation and apply across the country, so wherever your marriage belongs, we can act. Our chamber is in Bhopal, but our clients are all over India and beyond it.
We regularly act for NRIs and couples living overseas — those who married in India and now need the certificate for life abroad, and those coordinating an Indian registration from another country. Registration jurisdiction depends on where the marriage took place or where a spouse resides, and we work out the correct authority for you. You do not need to camp in India to get this done. We take your instructions remotely, in English or Hindi, tell you honestly which one or two appearances are genuinely unavoidable, and arrange things so an overseas couple can usually complete a trip in a single, well-planned visit rather than several. Distance should never be the reason your marriage stays unregistered.
Why choose us
- A named advocate. You deal with Adv. Bhawna Yadav and her team, not a faceless desk or an agent.
- One flat fee. ₹2,500, agreed in writing, covering the whole registration through to your certificate.
- No upselling. We quote one fee and tell you honestly what your matter actually needs — nothing more.
- Right the first time. A clean application, lodged correctly, so you are not sent back for a missing paper.
- English or Hindi. We work and explain in the language you are comfortable with.
If your marriage decision has taken a harder turn and separation is on the table, we also handle the mutual consent divorce with the same flat, honest approach — though we hope you never need it.
The legal basis
Registration of a Hindu marriage is provided for by Section 8 of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, under which a marriage already solemnised between two Hindus, Sikhs, Jains or Buddhists is entered in the Hindu Marriage Register and a certificate is issued. The civil route runs through the Special Marriage Act, 1954, which allows a secular solemnisation and registration and is used by inter-faith couples and by anyone who wants a registration independent of religion; because it carries a notice period set by the Act, this route naturally takes longer, and we tell you the realistic timeline for your case.
Most States have also framed their own rules making the registration of marriages compulsory, in line with the Supreme Court's direction that all marriages be registered, so the exact authority and format can vary from State to State. We identify the correct provision and authority for your marriage and handle the registration on the law as it stands today, so the certificate you receive stands up wherever you present it.

Frequently asked questions
How much does marriage registration cost?
Our flat professional fee is ₹2,500. That one figure covers confirming the right Act for your marriage, preparing your full application, lodging it with the correct authority, coordinating the appointment, and following through until your marriage certificate is issued. We agree the fee in writing before we start, so there is nothing added afterwards.
Is registering a marriage compulsory in India?
Registration is the proof the world actually recognises. Whatever the position where you married, a registered marriage certificate is what banks, passport offices, visa authorities and employers ask for. We register your marriage under the correct Act and put that certificate in your hands so you never have to explain the gap.
What is the difference between the Hindu Marriage Act and the Special Marriage Act?
The Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 registers a marriage already solemnised between two Hindus, Sikhs, Jains or Buddhists. The Special Marriage Act, 1954 is the civil route, used for inter-faith couples and for anyone who wants a secular registration. We confirm which one fits your marriage on our first call and handle it accordingly.
How long does marriage registration take?
For a straightforward Hindu Marriage Act registration, we usually complete the process within 3 to 7 days once your documents are ready and the appointment is set. The Special Marriage Act route involves a notice period fixed by law, so it runs longer, and we tell you the realistic timeline for your exact situation upfront.
Can you register our marriage if we live in different cities or abroad?
Yes. We act for couples all over India and for NRIs living overseas. Registration jurisdiction depends on where the marriage took place or where a spouse resides, and we work out the correct authority for you. We take instructions by call, video or email and keep the paperwork moving without you flying down for everything.
We are an NRI couple. Do we both have to be present?
It depends on the Act and the authority involved, and some steps do require the couple, and witnesses, to appear. We tell you honestly and early exactly which appearances are unavoidable and which we can handle for you, so an NRI couple can plan a single trip rather than several. We never make you travel for something we could do without you.
Will everything be handled in English or Hindi?
Both. We speak with you and explain every step in English or Hindi, whichever you prefer, and we make sure you understand exactly what each document says and why it is needed before anything is signed or lodged.
Why do I need a marriage certificate?
A marriage certificate is the single document that proves your marriage to any authority. You will need it for a spouse visa or dependent visa, for a passport or Aadhaar update, for a wife's or husband's name change, for joint bank accounts, insurance nominations and property matters. Getting it now saves a scramble later when a deadline is on you.
