Defamation legal notice — the formal demand that protects your name
A defamation legal notice is a formal, advocate-drafted demand sent to the person or organisation that has damaged your reputation with a false statement, requiring them to retract it, publish an apology, take down any offending content, and stop repeating it. Adv. Bhawna Yadav and her team draft and issue your defamation legal notice at a flat ₹1,999, on advocate letterhead, within 48 hours. It is the first, measured step that puts the other side on formal notice — and in a great many matters it resolves the dispute without ever reaching a court.
The fee is fixed and agreed in writing before any work starts. There is no hourly billing, nothing added quietly later, and no upselling. Unlike firms that pad the bill, we quote one fee and tell you honestly what your matter actually needs. We respect your time and our own effort.
What a defamation legal notice actually is
Your reputation is something the law protects. When someone publishes a false statement of fact about you — in writing, in speech, in a message, or online — that lowers you in the eyes of others, that is defamation. A defamation legal notice is the formal, written communication through which you tell the wrongdoer, on advocate letterhead, that their statement is false and defamatory, that it has caused you harm, and that they must put it right within a stated deadline.
The notice does several things at once. It identifies the exact statement and where it appeared. It records the harm it has caused to your reputation, your standing, or your livelihood. And it sets out a clear set of demands — an unconditional retraction, a written apology, the takedown of any online content, and an undertaking never to repeat the statement. Crucially, it also makes the consequences plain: that if the demands are not met by the deadline, you are entitled to pursue the matter in court.
A notice carries weight precisely because it is formal and comes from an advocate. For a person who spoke or posted carelessly, it is often the moment the seriousness lands — and many disputes are settled at exactly this stage, quietly and without the cost and delay of litigation.
What our flat ₹1,999 covers
The flat professional fee is deliberately simple, so you know precisely what you are getting:
- A confidential consultation in which we understand what was said, where and when it appeared, who published it, and the harm it has caused you.
- A review of your evidence — screenshots, links, messages, recordings, printed material, or the accounts of people who saw or heard the statement.
- Drafting the notice — a carefully built defamation legal notice in your name, on advocate letterhead, signed and stamped, precisely identifying the statement and setting out your demands.
- A clear deadline and consequences, so the other side understands both what they must do and what follows if they do not.
- Two rounds of revisions, so the notice reflects your matter exactly, and dispatch guidance so it is served correctly.
That is the whole of it, for one flat ₹1,999. If the matter later needs a suit or a complaint filed in court, we tell you honestly, scope it separately, and quote it in advance in writing — never bundled in, never assumed.
Online defamation — retraction, apology and takedown
The most common defamation matters we see today begin on a screen: a false review of your business, a defamatory post or comment, a fabricated message circulated on a group, a video or blog that makes untrue accusations, or an account created to malign you. Online statements spread quickly and are seen widely, which is exactly why acting early matters.
A defamation legal notice for online content is framed to achieve concrete outcomes. It demands that the person retract the false statement and issue a written apology. It demands the takedown of the specific posts, comments, reviews or videos, with links and screenshots identified so there is no ambiguity about what must come down. And where the content sits on a platform that hosts material published by others, the notice can be framed to press for its removal through the framework that governs online intermediaries in India.
Because the evidence in online matters can be edited or deleted, we ask you to preserve the original — full-screen screenshots that show the date, the account, and the exact words, along with the working links — before anything is taken down. That record is what gives your demand its force.
Who a defamation notice is for
Defamation is not confined to public figures. It reaches anyone whose good name has been attacked with a falsehood. These are the situations that most often bring people to us.
False statements posted online
A damaging, untrue review of your business or professional work; a defamatory post, comment or thread; a message or video circulated to your community, your customers, or your family. Online reach makes these matters urgent, and a prompt notice demanding retraction and takedown is the right first response.
Damage to a business or professional reputation
Doctors, consultants, shop owners, teachers, contractors and small businesses are frequently targeted with false accusations that drive away customers or clients. When a competitor, a disgruntled customer, or an anonymous account publishes untruths about your competence or integrity, a defamation legal notice is the measured way to demand a correction and protect your livelihood.
Written or spoken accusations
A defamatory letter, email or notice sent to your employer, your neighbours, your housing society, or your professional body; false and damaging statements made in a meeting or gathering. These matters are just as actionable as anything online, and we frame the notice to the specific audience that heard or read the statement.
Falsehoods within disputes
Property, family, business and personal disputes sometimes spill over into false accusations designed to shame or pressure you. A defamation notice draws a firm line, tells the other side that the falsehoods stop now, and creates a clear record if the matter later needs a court.
What you get with Adv. Bhawna Yadav and her team
You are not handed to a call centre or a rotating desk. You get a named advocate — Adv. Bhawna Yadav, enrolled with the Bar Council of Madhya Pradesh, with her chamber at Arera Hills, Bhopal — and her team, working on your matter directly. That means:
- An honest assessment of your position: whether the statement is genuinely defamatory, how strong your evidence is, and what a notice can realistically achieve, told to you straight rather than dressed up.
- A notice drafted with care, built on the facts of your matter and the exact words used — not a template with your name dropped in.
- Clear, enforceable demands — retraction, apology, takedown, and an undertaking not to repeat — with a deadline and stated consequences.
- Clear communication at every step, in English or Hindi, so you always understand what the notice says and what happens next.
How working with us goes
The process is designed to be quick and calm, because a spreading falsehood is stressful and time matters. It begins with a confidential consultation, over a call or video, where we listen to the whole story — what was said, where it appeared, who is behind it, and how it has affected you. We tell you frankly whether the statement is defamatory and whether a notice is the right first step.
You then share your evidence with us securely, and we draft the notice. We send it to you to read, take your input, and refine it through two rounds of revisions until it says exactly what your matter requires. Once you are satisfied, we finalise it on advocate letterhead, signed and stamped, and give you clear guidance on serving it so that delivery is properly recorded.
What you receive is a finished, court-ready defamation legal notice and a plain-English explanation of what to expect once it lands. You deal with an advocate throughout — the outcome is a formal demand on record and a strong footing for whatever comes next.
Available across India, and for NRIs and clients abroad
You do not need to be in Bhopal, or even in India, to instruct us. Defamation law applies across the country, so a defamation legal notice is effective wherever you and the other party are located. We act for clients in every Indian state, and for NRIs and clients living abroad whose reputation is being harmed back home.
The consultation happens over a call or video, your evidence is exchanged securely and digitally, and we draft and issue the notice from India on your behalf. Wherever you are, the work is handled with the same care and at the same flat ₹1,999. If you are overseas and worried about false statements circulating in India, a quick consultation is the fastest way to understand your options.
Why choose us
A matter that touches your reputation is not the place for uncertainty about who is doing the work or what it will cost. With us you get a named advocate and her team, one flat fee of ₹1,999 agreed in writing before we start, and a firm promise of no upselling — we quote one fee and tell you honestly what your matter actually needs, rather than manufacturing steps to grow the bill. You are looked after in English or Hindi, kept fully informed, and treated with the discretion a matter like this deserves. If your situation calls for a different kind of formal demand as well, we can advise on legal notice drafting separately and transparently.
The legal basis
Defamation in India is protected in two ways, and a single false statement can attract both. Civil defamation is a wrong for which you can seek damages to compensate the harm to your reputation and an injunction to stop the statement being published or repeated. Criminal defamation is an offence under Section 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS) — the provision that replaced Sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code when the new criminal codes came into force. Section 356 defines defamation and sets out its punishment, and many people still search for it by the older IPC numbers.
Where the defamation is online, the demand for takedown also draws on the framework governing digital content and online intermediaries under the Information Technology Act, 2000. A defamation legal notice sits within all of this: it asserts your rights clearly, records the harm, and demands a remedy — while keeping open every route the law gives you if the other side refuses to put it right. In the consultation we explain, in plain language, exactly which of these applies to your matter and what a notice can achieve, so you decide your next step with a realistic view rather than a false promise. If the matter does need a court, a short consultation is the best way to understand the road ahead before you commit to anything further.

Frequently asked questions
What does the flat ₹1,999 cover, and is anything added later?
The flat ₹1,999 covers the full consultation, a review of your evidence, drafting the defamation legal notice on advocate letterhead, two rounds of revisions, and clear guidance on serving it. It is our one professional fee, agreed in writing before we begin. There is no hourly billing and nothing is added quietly afterwards. If the other side ignores the notice and you decide to go to court, we scope and quote that separately and transparently — never bundled in.
Can you send a defamation notice for something posted online?
Yes. Online defamation — false posts, comments, reviews, messages, videos or blogs — is one of the most common reasons clients come to us. The notice can demand that the person retract and apologise, and that the defamatory content be taken down. Where an online platform is hosting the content, the notice can also be framed to press for its removal. Please keep the original screenshots and links, as they are your evidence.
Does the notice work if I am in a different state, or the other person is?
Yes. Defamation law applies across India, so a defamation legal notice is effective wherever you or the other party are located. We act for clients in every Indian state at the same flat ₹1,999, and the notice is drafted to reach the other side wherever they are.
I am an NRI and someone in India is spreading false statements about me. Can you help?
Yes. We regularly act for NRIs and clients living abroad whose reputation is being harmed back home. The consultation is held over a call or video, your evidence is shared securely and digitally, and we draft and issue the notice from India on your behalf. Distance does not change the flat fee.
Can the notice be handled in Hindi?
Yes. We work with you in English or Hindi, whichever you are comfortable in, and we explain every part of the notice in plain language so you know exactly what it says and what it demands before it goes out.
What is the difference between civil and criminal defamation, and which applies to me?
Civil defamation is a claim for damages and an order stopping the false statement; criminal defamation is an offence under Section 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (earlier Sections 499 and 500 of the IPC). A single incident can give rise to both. In the consultation we explain honestly which route fits your matter — and in many cases a well-drafted notice resolves things before either becomes necessary.
What if they ignore the notice?
A firm notice resolves a great many matters on its own, because it signals that you are serious and that the next step is a court. If yours is one that does not, you can pursue a civil suit for damages and an injunction, or a criminal complaint, or both. We handle those stages separately, with the position and the cost explained to you first, so nothing is assumed.
How fast can the notice be issued?
In most matters the notice is drafted and ready within 48 hours of the consultation and receiving your evidence. Where a false statement is spreading and every day matters, that speed is exactly the point — the sooner the demand is on record, the stronger your position.
