What information can I get under RTI?
Anything held by a public authority that isn't exempt under Section 8 (national security, parliamentary privilege, fiduciary, third-party personal info, cabinet papers, etc.) or Section 9 (copyright). In practice that's an enormous range — case status, FIR copies, mutation entries, bank delay reasons, exam mark sheets, EPF balances, passport status, government order copies.
How long does it take to get a response?
30 days under Section 7 (48 hours if the matter concerns life or liberty). If denied or no response, you can file a first appeal within 30 days. We draft the first appeal as part of this SKU.
Can I file RTI for personal records?
Yes — your own EPF passbook, your own academic transcripts, your own service record. RTI is the cheapest way to get records the issuing authority is dragging on.
Should I file myself or use a lawyer?
DIY RTIs often get rejected because of poor framing — vague queries, asking 'why' (RTI is for information, not justification), bunching unrelated questions. A lawyer-drafted application costs ₹499 and gets answered first time.
